What is Creativity? Letter From a 12th & 9th House Stellium
This letter dives into the 12th & 9th house wisdom in creativity and success.
I have a lot of ideas for things I want to do with my life, I'm a very creative person and feel fulfilled doing that work, but I can't always get motivated to put in the work necessary to be successful. I get overwhelmed by all it takes to be "successful," and I also don't want to choose just one to focus on because they all fulfill me in different ways. I feel like my life is always stagnating even though I have so much potential for success. Do you have any advice for overcoming this mental block or whatever it is?
-L
Dear L, what is to be successful? A fat paycheck? Well-presented resume? Shiny portfolio? - or enjoyment, being able to do what you love doing, finding harmony between your values and creativity? How we describe success is the only thing that builds a path for it. Let's look at your chart's wisdom that might help us identify what creativity and success might mean for your most authentic self.
North Node conjunct with your ascendant. In the past incarnations, one-on-one relationships were the focus of your attention. Meanwhile, in this life, the situations, good or bad, at ease or with the challenge, will appear to support you in overcoming codependency and embracing your identity and mission. Could pushing toward partnerships of any kind and compromising a little too much be leading you to overlook your originality and block putting your creations into the world? What does choosing yourself mean to you in your creative journey?
Most people think that our rising sign is what we were naturally born as. On the other hand, rising and sun signs are our ever-improving sense of identity and ego. Aquarius is very much associated with the Ugly Duckling story and the myth of Prometheus - the thief of fire. Your story seems to be the story of finding your originality through observing other groups and communities with perseverance but without a desire to be accepted by all.
Including both your modern and traditional chart rulers (Uranus and Saturn), you have multiple planets in your twelfth house. According to traditional astrology, the 12th house manages beneath or beyond our consciousness, and it warns us of the perils of our self-sabotaging tendencies and hidden enemies. It is commonly associated with sorrow, isolation, and the unconscious.
On the contrary, an evolutionary astrologer, Maurice Fernandez, reminded traditional astrologers that the Sun and all planets rise in the 12th house every day. The evolutionary perspective does not agree with the twelfth house's isolating and "behind the scenes" aspect but highlights its ability to tap into the collective unconscious.
Wikipedia's description of the collective consciousness is the set of shared beliefs, ideas, and moral attitudes which operate as a unifying force within society.
Meanwhile, the collective unconscious contains universal images and ideas. It helps to explain why similar themes occur in mythologies around the world.
How often do we read poetry and think, "It feels like I wrote this."?Twelfth-house creativity is like poetry rather than a well-researched article or non-fiction book. Twelfth-house creativity is not highly logical; it is rather like a dream. The twelfth house is more like an idea that comes to your mind when you have no pen or paper. It is arbitrary. And the twelfth house creativity can cause people from across the globe to resonate with each other.
In your ninth house, Mercury, Venus, and Sun sextile your chart ruler. The ninth house, ruled by the philosophers of the zodiac, Sagittarius, indicates a strong desire to understand the bigger picture and the search for deeper meaning in life, but with your Scorpio stellium in that house, your approach it in an intense and transformative way. Your strong desire to understand the darker side of life gives you passion in your creative pursuits, especially perhaps in publishing and academia.
You sound overwhelmed by the pressure of focusing on only one of having multiple passions. Why not combine them with the help of small tasks other than focusing on finishing one big project? Maybe, promising yourself to be creative and productive every day at 10 am is not your thing. An agreement between the twelfth and ninth houses is spontaneous, without choreography. On one day you may want to add some shapes, and on the other day some colors. Maybe, this is a learning journey to embracing the nonlinearity in your creative process and combining your multitalented nature one small task at a time with your unique ability to touch other realms.
Thank you for connecting with me. I wish you nonlinear and multi-flavored creativity!
